Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking

Booking

This section covers the reservation process, how to search for vehicles, what information you need to provide, and what happens after you complete your booking online. Understanding these steps helps you prepare for a smooth experience from the moment you browse our website to the moment you receive your confirmation.

How do I book a vehicle with 4Drive Armenia?

Select your pickup location, dates, and time on the homepage. Browse available vehicles, compare specifications and terms, then choose the one that suits your trip. Enter your details, pay the booking advance online with a card, and you will receive a confirmation voucher by email. The voucher contains pickup instructions and the contact details of the local company handling your reservation.

Can I rent a car in Yerevan and return it in another city?

One-way rentals depend on the vehicle and the route. Some suppliers allow returns in Gyumri, Dilijan, or other locations for an additional fee, while others require same-location return. Check the terms displayed during booking or contact us at [email protected] with your itinerary, and we will confirm availability and any extra charges.

What if I need to change my pickup time or location after booking?

Contact us as soon as possible at [email protected] with your booking reference. Changes to pickup time or location are subject to supplier approval and vehicle availability. Minor time adjustments are usually accommodated at no extra cost, but switching locations may incur a fee. We will coordinate with the local company and update your voucher if the change is approved.

Payment and Advance

When you confirm a booking online, you pay an advance to secure the vehicle. The balance is due at pickup, and the accepted payment methods for that balance vary by vehicle. This section explains how the two-stage payment works, what happens to your advance, and where to find detailed information about final payment options.

What is the booking advance and how much do I pay online?

The booking advance is a partial payment you make online by card to reserve your vehicle. The amount is shown clearly during the booking process and varies by vehicle and rental period. This advance secures your reservation with the supplier. The remaining balance is paid when you collect the vehicle, using the payment method specified in your voucher.

Can I pay the full amount in cash when I pick up the vehicle?

The booking advance must be paid online by card. The balance payment method at pickup depends on the specific vehicle you have reserved. Some suppliers accept debit card, credit card, or cash for the balance, while others have more restrictive requirements. The accepted methods are listed in the vehicle terms during booking and confirmed in your voucher. Visit our payment methods page for a full explanation of the two-stage system.

Is my advance refundable if I cancel?

Refund eligibility depends on the cancellation policy attached to your booking, which is displayed before you confirm and included in your voucher. Some vehicles allow free cancellation up to a certain number of hours before pickup, while others have stricter terms. If you cancel within the free window, the advance is refunded minus any processing fees. Late cancellations or no-shows may forfeit the advance entirely.

Deposit and Credit Card

A deposit is a security hold placed on a card at pickup to cover potential damage or extra charges. It is separate from the advance you paid online and from the final balance. This section clarifies what a deposit is, which card types are accepted for the hold, and what happens if you do not have a credit card.

Do I need a credit card to rent a vehicle?

Many vehicles require a credit card in the main driver's name to secure the deposit hold at pickup. However, some suppliers accept debit cards for certain vehicles. The card requirement is listed in the vehicle terms when you book and confirmed in your voucher. If you do not have a credit card, filter for vehicles that accept debit cards or contact us at [email protected] to identify suitable options.

What is a deposit and how much will be blocked?

The deposit is a temporary hold placed on your card by the supplier when you collect the vehicle. It covers the excess in case of damage, traffic fines, fuel shortages, or late return. The amount varies by vehicle and insurance level and is specified in your voucher. The hold is released after you return the vehicle in good condition, typically within 7 to 21 days depending on your card issuer.

Can I use a debit card if my limit is high enough?

Some suppliers allow debit cards for the deposit hold, provided the card has a sufficient available balance to cover the hold amount. If your preferred vehicle requires a credit card and you only have a debit card, ask your bank to raise your daily spending and authorisation limits temporarily. Alternatively, search for vehicles that explicitly accept debit cards in their terms.

Documents and Age

All drivers must present a valid licence and meet minimum age and experience requirements set by the supplier. This section explains which documents to bring, whether you need an International Driving Permit, and what rules apply to additional drivers joining the rental agreement.

What documents do I need to collect my vehicle?

Bring your valid driving licence, your rental voucher (printed or on a mobile device), and the card used for the deposit hold. An International Driving Permit is recommended if your licence is not in Latin script. Some suppliers also require proof of identity such as a passport. The exact documents are confirmed in your voucher and checked by the local company when you sign the rental agreement at pickup.

What are the minimum age and licence requirements?

Most suppliers require drivers to be at least 21 years old with one year of driving experience. Premium and 4x4 vehicles often have higher thresholds, such as 23 or 25 years of age and two or more years of experience. These requirements are shown in the vehicle terms during booking. If you do not meet the criteria, the supplier may decline to release the vehicle, and no refund will be due.

Can I add a second driver?

Yes, additional drivers can be added at pickup for a daily fee set by the supplier. Each extra driver must present a valid licence and meet the same age and experience requirements as the main driver. Declare all additional drivers when you collect the vehicle so they are covered by the insurance. Undeclared drivers are not insured and may void your protection in the event of an incident.

Pickup and Return

Vehicles are collected from a supplier desk at the airport, in the city, or delivered to your accommodation, depending on the company. This section covers where and when to pick up your vehicle, what to inspect before you drive away, and how to handle return procedures at the end of your rental period.

Where do I collect my vehicle at Yerevan airport?

Collection procedures vary by supplier. Some operate desks inside Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) terminal, others meet clients outside the arrivals hall, and a few arrange off-airport pickup with a shuttle. Your voucher contains the exact location, opening hours, and a contact number for the local company. If your flight is delayed, inform the supplier as soon as possible to avoid a late pickup charge.

What should I check before driving away?

Walk around the vehicle with the supplier representative and note every scratch, dent, and chip on the rental agreement. Check tyre condition, lights, wipers, and fuel level. Take photos or video of all four sides and the interior. Confirm that the spare wheel, jack, warning triangle, and first-aid kit are present. Any damage not recorded at pickup may be charged to you at return, so invest a few minutes in a thorough inspection.

What happens if I return the vehicle late or early?

Return the vehicle at the date and time agreed in your voucher. Late returns may incur an extra daily charge or forfeit part of your deposit, especially if the delay affects the next client. Early returns do not usually qualify for a refund of unused days unless the supplier's policy explicitly allows it. If you know you will be late, contact the local company immediately to negotiate an extension and avoid penalties.

Driving in Armenia

Armenia's road network ranges from smooth intercity highways to narrow mountain passes. This section provides practical advice on speed limits, fuel availability, road conditions, and the special permit required if you plan to cross the border into Georgia during your rental period.

Can I drive my rental vehicle to Georgia?

Cross-border travel into Georgia is permitted only if you arrange written permission from the supplier in advance. This is a paid extra service that must be requested during booking or by contacting us before pickup. The permission document is checked at the Bavra and Gogavan border posts. Driving into Georgia without authorisation voids your insurance and may result in the vehicle being impounded. Travel to other neighbouring countries is not permitted under any circumstances.

What are the speed limits and traffic rules I should know?

Urban speed limits are 60 km/h, intercity roads 90 km/h, and highways 110 km/h. Traffic drives on the right. Headlights must be on at all times outside built-up areas. Seat belts are mandatory for all occupants. The legal blood-alcohol limit is 0.04 per cent. Police conduct random checks, and fines are issued on the spot or by mail. Armenia has no toll roads or vignettes, so you pay only for fuel and parking.

Are mountain roads difficult and do I need a 4x4?

Main routes to Lake Sevan (65 km from Yerevan), Dilijan (100 km), and Gyumri (125 km) are paved and suitable for standard sedans. Remote destinations such as Tatev monastery (250 km) and Meghri near the Iranian border (370 km) involve winding roads with steep gradients and occasional gravel sections. Winter snow at higher elevations and summer washouts can make a 4x4 with part-time four-wheel drive or AWD necessary. Choose your vehicle based on your itinerary and the season.

Changes and Cancellation

Plans can shift, and this section explains how to modify or cancel your booking, what fees may apply, and how to reach our team if you need assistance. Knowing the rules in advance helps you avoid unnecessary charges and ensures you receive any refund you are entitled to.

How do I cancel my booking and will I get a refund?

Email [email protected] with your booking reference and cancellation request. If you cancel within the free cancellation window stated in your voucher, we will refund your advance minus any processing fees. Cancellations made after the deadline or no-shows forfeit the advance. Refunds are processed to the original payment card within 7 to 14 business days, depending on your card issuer.

Can I extend my rental period after I have picked up the vehicle?

Contact the local supplier as soon as you know you need extra days. Extensions are subject to vehicle availability and may attract a daily rate higher than your original booking. If the vehicle is already reserved for another client immediately after your return date, an extension will not be possible and you must return on time or face late fees. Always communicate early to maximise your chances of approval.
